Symbol #1 Mockingjay
The mockingjay is a important symbol throughout the novel. The mockingjay emerges whenever someone makes a mistake. It symbolizes a mistake, especially something that was shameful to the capitol. However, the mockingjay was something that never supposed to be exist. Later on, the mockingjay becomes a sign of the rebellion.
The quote where mockingjay emerges in page 237. “The birds fall silent. Somewhere, a mockingjay gives the warning whistle that precedes the hovercraft. I don’t know how it knows. It must hear things that humans can’t. I pause, my eyes focused on what’s ahead, not what’s happening behind me” (Collins 237). This quote is about how mockingjay warns Katniss and Rue about their mistake. Katniss went away from Rue saying bye, then the mockingjay emerges to warn Katniss about she have done wrong.

The hunger games is what the novel is all about. The hunger games themselves represent desperation and oppression. By participating in the hunger games, children gets more brutal and violent after each hunger game. The Hunger games represented that there was no way out for the district, and they were stuck in the Capitol’s control. The Hunger games required the children to adapt to the environment in order to survive.

I brush past the gaping Avoxes who guard the elevators and hit the number twelve button with my fist. The doors slide together and I zip upward... Now I’ve ruined everything!” (Collins 103). During the Hunger Game, Katniss runs away and ruins the Hunger Game. This proves that she is getting violent and desires to get out of the game before she becomes insane.
